4 Tips For Getting Through Your First Infusion Therapy

Infusion therapy is a therapy that can be used to treat arthritis. With infusion therapy, you receive medication through an IV, which is usually done at the doctor's office or medical center but can also be done at home. If you are getting ready for your first infusion therapy, there are things you can do to improve your experience.

Tip #1: Hydrate Beforehand

To have a successful infusion therapy, you are going to need to hydrate before you head off for therapy. Being well-hydrated will make it easier to find your veins and set up the IV, which means you will have to undergo fewer pokes. Start increasing the amount of water you drink two days before you go in for your treatment.

Tip #2: Bring a Snack

You should go into your treatment having eaten your meals at your regular time. You don't want to go in with an empty stomach, as that could make your infusion less comfortable. You want to keep your blood sugar levels even during your treatment.

That is why you should bring a healthy snack with you during your treatment. For example, you could bring some pita chips and hummus or bring some chopped up fruit to eat. You are more likely to be nauseous and lightheaded if you don't eat than if you do.

Tip #3: Wear Comfortable Clothing

You are going to want to wear comfortable clothing for your treatment. You will have to sit for a while, so you should focus on comfort, not fashion. Things such as pajamas, leggings, or sweatpants are a good idea. As for tops, something that you can zip is great. You want something that you can easily take on and off as your temperature needs change.

Tip #4: Bring Some Entertainment

Fourth, you are going to want to bring some entertainment with you to your treatment. You may be at the treatment center for four to six hours, so you will want to bring a few different things to do.

For example, you can bring some books or magazines to read. You can also bring something more active to do, such as coloring books or knitting supplies. Bring activities that you can do while you are sitting down.

When it comes to getting your first infusion therapy, drink lots of water before your treatment, so setting up the IV is easier. Bring a snack, wear comfortable clothing, and bring some entertainment. You may also want to get a few cozy blankets so you can stay comfortable during your treatment.

Fortunately, a friend of mine started talking with me about different ways to master health care, and she was able to teach me a few handy tips that helped me to keep my little ones happy and healthy. For example, I learned how to take temperatures more accurately, so that I could tell when to worry and when to ignore a few innocent symptoms. It was really incredible to feel like I had the power to help other people to feel better, and I would never go back to my old way of doing things.
